Brrr! What a strong blast of cold weather that arrived this afternoon. We can't seem to get out of this winter mode. Hopefully, our school days will not be affected anymore, fingers crossed. Despite our missed days, we have been working hard and having lots of fun. Ms. Amy did a language group with us today. It was the perfect weather for her story about poor Molly being cold and getting dressed in warm winter accessories. The kids had a great time trying out the various items and calling them by the correct names.
Both classes have had so much fun as we reconnect with our School Family members after the breakI We have also added a few new friends to our families since returning. We have welcomed them into our families and are learning all about them. Unfortunately, we have had to say good-bye to two of our friends and wish them well as they move to new schools. They will be missed but we know they will enjoy their new school families.
It has been a black and white week with lots of waddling movement in our class as we learn all about penguins. These unique birds appear to be a favorite of the kids. Stay posted for more updates on our projects. It was exciting to see so many of our families at WinterFest on Thursday evening. The smiles on the kids faces as they made their way between activities and seeing other school family members attending was very heart warming. Many of them were still talking about the evening at school on Friday.
What a fun week the kids have had searching the halls for Elfie. She took us on quite a hunt a couple of days. The kids are excited to get to bring their Elfie journals home on Tuesday. I hope you can find a few minutes to share your students excitement by looking at the photos and writing of our class. Monday and Tuesday will probably be two of the kids favorite days this school year. On Monday, the young chefs in room 24, will bake a Gingerbread Man cookie. On Tuesday, they get to enjoy that cookie for snack. Let's hope he or she will not run away like he did in the stories. Art Partners brought Stone Lion Puppet Show to High Grove today presenting I Would Rather Be a Hummingbird. The kids enjoyed this show with the puppets appearing from behind a set rather than moving around the room with the puppeteer visible. The main character was a small beaver who was able to put out the forest fire even though he hadn't been strong enough to help cut logs or work on the dam. The show shared a good message to never give up and always try. Some of the afternoon friends enjoyed creating a snowman and decorating a tree with ornaments. Ms. Laura Verhulst was kind enough to share this activity with us.
What a fun time we have had trying to find Elfie, our school Elf on the Shelf, this week. She has been pretty busy finding places to be around High Grove and some fun antics. There was a lot of wondering where she will appear on Monday.
Our afternoon class is so lucky to have Ms. Mina joining our class for a few hours each week. She is an A+ student from the High School and is assisting with individual and small group activities. We are excited to have her join us.
Our school family is growing! What an exciting time in our classes as we welcome several new friends. We are looking forward to a busy month with Elfie, the Elf on the Shelf, making her appearance at High Grove, Art Partners presenting If I Were a Hummingbird, and many other fun activities.
Ms. Amy, one of our Language Therapist, did her language group lesson recently. The kids participated in a cooperative learning activity making sandwiches with a friend. She worked on sequencing the order of constructing the sandwiches, using age appropriate language, and working together with a peer exhibiting good social interaction skills. This last week, we made homemade play dough with Miss Gayle one day. Following that recipe took a lot of math skills, following directions, and motor skills to stir it all up! The next day we used it to make the first letter of our names. Some of us had enough play dough to make all our letters in our first name. There were some big smiles with the kids showing off their accomplishment.

AuthorWrite something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview. I am the teacher, safe keeper, cheer leader and supporter of the children in room 24. I am Miss Debbie. I enjoy spending the limited time I have with your child and watching them grow into little people. Thank you for sharing!
