HAPPY MAY DAY! Wow where did the month of April go? We have been having so much fun with our unit on plants. After talking about how plants moved - wind, prickles to carry them, etc. the classes tried out a fun activity flying seeds. We made a "Seedy" out of paper to resemble the seed pod from a maple tree. Then we went outside to the playground and went up on some of the various pieces of equipment and gave them a try. It was an "aha" moment to watch them twirl down to the ground just like some of their nicknames suggest: whirlybird, helicopter, or whirly.
On Monday, Ms. Amy came in to do a group language lesson on seeds. She gave each of us a glove, 5 cotton balls, and 5 different sized seed. We were given 5 seeds - a corn, green bean, pea, radish, and pumpkin seed. First we put the seeds in order by their size. Then the kids wet their cotton balls and put them into each finger of the glove. Lastly, they put the seeds in the size order into each cotton ball.
